24 May

When you think of Kate Fearnley combined with Middlesbrough Fashion Week I bet you think it’s all glitz, glamour and Golden Margaritas but not for this hard-working fashion blogger – I got right into the mix backstage at the VIP event ‘A Date with Kate.’

As soon as I stepped into MFW HQ on the morning I was put straight to the task of making up the goodie bags for the event later on that night which involved the very tricky task of ensuring the pink tissue paper was still sticking out of the top while making sure the samples, magazines etc were placed in the bag perfectly too – don’t laugh, it was a hard job! College Couture

23 May

When I walked into the textiles room at Middlesbrough College my eyes were soon taken in by the amount of hand-made courtue clothes.

There were plenty of pieces that looked right at home with the current spring/summer trends in Topshop including a divine red polkadot 50s style dress and a very haute couture skirt that was made seemingly out strips of clear plastic.

The students were sat around XL cutting tables trimming fabric to dress patterns or completely focused on the sewing machines taking up hems.

On Wednesday May 25th from 6pm – 9pm, Middlesbrough College will be holding a catwalk show with over 50 handmade garments by the first and second year fashion textiles and art & design students.

The catwalk show will comprise of many different collections including a sequined galore circus theme and a 50’s inspired show complete with circle skirts and plenty of rock ‘n’ roll.
